Scouting in Horringer

We have a thriving Scout group in Horringer providing fun, adventure and challenge for boys aged from 6 to 14 years.  We have our own   small headquarters and camping field on the edge of Ickworth Park, which provides wonderful opportunities to keep the “out” in scouting!

Beaver Scouts (age 6 to 8 yrs)

The Beaver Scouts is our youngest section, for 6 to 8 year olds.  They meet every Tuesday during term time, taking part in a varied programme full of fun, games, and even, occasionally, some learning!  On a regular basis the Colony takes part in District events, and last year were winners in the Cross Country Run, and runners-up in the Seven a Side football tournament.

Cub Scouts (age 8 to 10½ yrs)

The Cub Scouts meet every Wednesday during term time, and also enjoy games and activities as well as working hard for their badges and attending district activities – last year they were winners in both the Seven a Side football tournament and swimming gala, and came second in the Cross Country Run.  In the summer they go on a Pack Holiday, as well as attending the local district camp.

Scouts (aged 10½ to14 yrs)

The Scouts meet every Saturday during term time, and in addition have a number of weekend camps throughout the year at our site in Horringer.  Their weekly programme covers basic Scouting skills, including campfire cooking,   pioneering and orienteering, as well as wide games in the Park.               We also have a very supportive Parents Committee, which raises funds for us with events such as a   Summer Barbecue and our very popular Barn Dance.
